If you thought the lead up to Obama’s first election as president was bad, just wait and watch. These people are dangerously unhinged, and it’s already begun.
Romney Endorser Nugent Tells NRA To “Cut Off [Dems] Heads In November: I mean, really, MSM. A crack by a self-described Democrat about Ann Romney’s work history occasions a week of hand-wringing, but a call to violence from an official Romney endorser — one who has already publicly wished violence against the nation’s first black president — doesn’t warrant a peep? [AlterNet/Adele M. Stan/16 Apr 2012]
“If Barack Obama becomes the President in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” – this is not coming from an unassociated cable news talking head, Nugent is a Romney advocate whose endorsement Romney purposefully solicited.
Miami-Dade Fire Captain Blames Trayvon Martin Killing On ‘Shitbag’ Parents Of ‘Urban Youths’: The Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue Department opened an investigation into a racist post on one of its captains’ Facebook page. According to The Grio, Brian Beckmann, a captain in the Miami-Dade fire department, posted a rant on his Facebook page suggesting that Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman was unjustly accused and that Martin’s killing can be blamed upon poor parenting by “urban” parents who are “welfare dependent”:
“Listening to Prosecutor Corey blow herself and her staff for five minutes before pre-passing judgment on George Zimmerman. The state seeks reelection again, truth aside. I and my coworkers could rewrite the book on whether our urban youths are victims of racist profiling or products of their failed, shitbag, ignorant, pathetic, welfare dependent excuses for parents, but like Mrs. Corey, we speak only the truth. They’re just misunderstood little church going angels and the ghetto hoodie look doesn’t have anything to do with why people wonder if they’re about to get jacked by a thug.”
For the record, Trayvon Martin’s mother is a program coordinator at the Miami-Dade Housing Authority. His father is a truck driver. Soneither parent is “dependent” on welfare. [ThinkProgress/Ian Millhiser/16 Apr 2012]
Speakers At Boston’s Tea Party Event Scream At Protesters: ‘We Will Not Be Silenced By Faggots’: Boston Police is investigating its officers’ response to rowdy duel protests at the Boston Common on Sunday, Tax Day, after a photo surfaced showing “a city officer with his hand around a protester’s neck.” As Daily Kos’ Scott Wooledge reports, the Tea Party-organized event was co-sponsored by the vehemently anti-gay MassResistance and featured Scott Lively, “professional worldwide hunter of homosexuals and top proponent of ‘gay cure’” and a proponent of Uganda’s infamous ‘kill gays’ legislation.
As counter-protesters — including Occupy Boston Queer and Trans Direct Action Working Group — expressed their opposition to Lively’s participation, one of the speakers said from the podium, broadcast across the loud speakers at the Commons, “We will not be silenced by faggots.” Read a first-hand account from the protester roughed up in the picture at Back2Stonewall. ALEC Disbands Task Force Responsible for Voter ID, ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws: Pressured by watchdog groups, civil rights organizations and a growing national movement for accountable lawmaking, the American Legislative Exchange Council announced Tuesday that it was disbanding the task force that has been responsible for advancing controversial Voter ID and “Stand Your Ground” laws.
ALEC, the shadowy corporate-funded proponent of so-called “model legislation” for passage by pliant state legislatures, announced that it would disband its “Public Safety and Elections” task force. The task force has been the prime vehicle for proposing and advancing what critics describe as voter-suppression and anti-democratic initiatives—not just restrictive Voter ID laws but also plans to limit the ability of citizens to petition for referendums and constitutional changes that favor workers and communities. The task force has also been the source of so-called “Castle Doctrine” and “Stand Your Ground” laws that limit the ability of police and prosecutors to pursue inquiries into shootings of unarmed individuals such as Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. Republicans reject ‘Buffett rule’ in the Senate: Republican-led opposition blocked the ‘Buffett rule’ from advancing in the Senate, turning back an election year effort by President Obama to slap a new tax rate on those earning beyond $1 million a year. Nearly all Republicans voted against the measure, a potentially risky move at a time when 60% of voters support the measure, according to a recent Gallup poll, as a way to ensure wealthy Americans pay their fair share of taxes. Democrats are likely to revive the effort in coming months. “Continuing to allow some of the wealthiest Americans to use special tax breaks to avoid paying their fair share simply cannot be justified,” the White House said in a statement before the vote….The Senate voted 51-45, mostly along party lines. Israeli TV report shows air force gearing up for Iran attack, says moment of truth is near – ‘IAF expects losses, and knows it can’t destroy entire Iranian program’: A major Israel TV station on Sunday night broadcast a detailed report on how Israel will go about attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities in the event that diplomacy and sanctions fail and Israel decides to carry out a military strike. The report, screened on the main evening news of Channel 10, was remarkable both in terms of the access granted to the reporter, who said he had spent weeks with the pilots and other personnel he interviewed, and in the fact that his assessments on a strike were cleared by the military censor. No order to strike is likely to be given before the P5+1 talks with Iran resume in May, the reporter, Alon Ben-David, said….Ben-David said the Israel Air Force “does not have the capacity to destroy the entire Iranian program.” … “The result won’t be definitive.” [timesofisrael/Greg Tepper/15 Apr 2012]
Mitt Romney to Mothers: Want dignity? ‘You need to go to work’: [T]he real failure of this new strategy to divert attention away from the Republicans’ assault on women is that it’s Republicans who have long waged war against mothers. Pick any policy that better enables women to spend more time with their children or to make the choice Ann Romney did, not to work at all, and Republicans are 100 percent against it. Paid family leave laws so working mothers can spend time with their new infants? Against it. Housing and nutritional assistance so women can forgo employment to stay home with their children? Not only are Republicans against that, but in several states, Republicans have pushed for, and even enacted, legislation requiring those women to submit to drug tests. Because obviously any woman who wants to make the choice to stay home with her children must be a drug addict. Unless her name is Ann Romney. [DailyKos/Kalli Joy Gray/16 Apr 2012]
