Obama got Syria to admit it had chemical weapons, something it’s denied for years.
Obama got Syria to sign the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Obama got Russia – Russia! – and the UN to agree to help seize those weapons.
Obama turned Syria’s greatest ally into an asset in this endeavor.
Obama did all of this without firing a shot.
And still the guy can’t seem to get any credit or respect.
• U.S., Russia reach agreement on seizure of Syrian chemical weapons arsenal: The United States and Russia agreed Saturday on an outline for the identification and seizure of Syrian chemical weapons and said Syria must turn over an accounting of its arsenal within a week. The agreement will be backed by a U.N. Security Council resolution that could allow for sanctions or other consequences if Syria fails to comply, Secretary of State John F. Kerry said.
• Obama administration denies labor’s request for health care waiver: Organized labor was one of the Obama administration’s most important allies during the passage of the Affordable Care Act. But more recently, some unions have been among the law’s loudest critics. A particular issue of contention has been so-called “Taft-Hartley plans” — multi-employer health-care plans that unions run, and that aren’t eligible for subsidies under the terms of the Affordable Care Act. The plans cover about 20 million Americans, and the government treats them as employer-based health-care plans for tax purposes.
