If you’ve wondered why a Canadian follows US politics so closely, you wouldn’t be alone there. I get asked that question a lot. The simplest answer is that it matters. It matters not only to Americans but to other countries that will go where the US leads. Being right next door and currently having a right wing government, I worry about US politics because Canadian politicians like to follow US politicians, especially on their more hard right stances that would generally never be tolerated in Canada. This is just one more case in point.
Major players have allowed their pursuit of personal wealth (and ego) to take precedence over larger political goals; that elements of the conservative movement resemble a me-first, moneymaking “racket,” where lining ones pockets stands out as the key objective.
